17th December: A “Company” Christmas

Commissioned by Randstad, we asked Polish businesses about their plans for Christmas and the New Year.  Almost 90% of companies plan various attractions for their employees, or are going to participate in special Christmas events.

Near half of the businesses (44%) are going to organise a Christmas meeting for all of their staff. Other popular moves include paying the staff a Christmas bonus (35%), or funding gift vouchers (32%). Close to a third of the entrepreneurs (31%) intend to give presents to their employees.
On the other hand, 15% plan to participate in charity events.

16th December: Christmas on credit?

Even now, 140 000 households consider supporting their holiday expenditure with a loan or cash credit. It’s reasonable to expect that this number is going to grow as the preparations and further expenses advance.

Almost a million Polish families admit to having loaned money for Christmas in the previous years. The amounts were usually low, between PLN 500 and 1000, and were use as support and supplementation for gaps in the household budgets.

15th December: What about a christmas tree?

The Christmas tree is one of the primary holiday symbols. Just like 20 years ago, today over 90% of Poles declare that this symbol is going to be present in their homes as well. The times have changed, but our preferences for picking up a real vs. artificial tree stay relatively the same – artificial trees are still the in the lead.
In 1996, 65% of respondents preferred an artificial tree, whereas now this number has grown to 85%.

We have some good news in store for the remaining 35% of the respondents who prefer real trees. An increasing number of stores and salesmen offer door-to-door delivery, and the country’s first Christmas tree rental service has just launched in Warsaw. The idea is to promote a green approach to the Christmas tree phenomenon.

14th December: No present ideas? Try colour!

Don’t know what to look for when choosing presents? Maybe you can find a hint in the colour trends that Pantente Inc. publishes each year. 2016 is going to be a breakthrough year, because this is the first time when their specialists chose two colours that are likely going to take the design world by storm in the upcoming year.

The combination of Rose Quartz (PANTONE 13-1520), a delicate and warm rouge, and Serenity (PANTONE 15-3919), a shade of blue, pursues the mind-fullness philosophy. It symbolizes striving for balance and harmony, which is so important in today’s busy world. Maybe this is going to be a good starting point?

Millions not just for oneself

Today is the last day to participate in this year’s Szlachetna Paczka (Noble Package) event, which we heartily recommend as an advisory partner! Did you know that almost 90% of Poles believe that together we can help more effectively than separately, and 51% of us declared that they are going to help a relative or a complete stranger this Christmas?

What is more, about 3 million people declared that they plan to participate in this year’s Szlachetna Packa (Noble Package) event – it’s more people than the citizens of Warsaw and the surrounding towns combined!

Presents that bring the most joy!

Bought your presents yet? No? For those who are still a mile behind with their Christmas gifts, those who can’t make up their minds, or can’t find the inspiration, we’ve prepared a bunch of information on the present-related preferences of Poles.

We’re the happiest when we receive cosmetics and perfume (75%), clothes (62%), candy (62%), and watches and jewelery (55%). It’s also not surprising that children and teens are the happiest when they get electronic devices!

December 8: Gifts for over 5000 PLN

Over PLN 5000 in presents! : This year, the average household is going to spend PLN 837 on gifts. It turns out that in the gender-studies era, gender matters after all, at least when it comes to how much we’re planning to spend on Christmas presents. Men are visibly more generous in this respect – they are going to spend on average PLN 327 more than women. It’s also among the male population that we’ve found voices declaring a planned spend on Christmas presents in excess of PLN 5000. According to TNS’s analysts’ calculations, there’s approx. 150 000 such generous Santas in Poland!

Our holiday forecasts have been on the mark!

As we estimated a month ago, Poles spent over PLN 20 billion on Christmas presents. It turned out that in fact we intended to spend slightly more on Christmas gifts than we actually did. On the other hand, expenses on food were marginally higher than we initially estimated.

So Christmas is over and what’s next…? After New Year’s days, on 18 Jan, we are going to publish a summary report on the entire project, along with the key findings. Our more inquisitive readers will have the opportunity to look at a more detailed version of the report with more specific information on holiday spending as well as expenses on Winter sales. What’s more? We are also going to track stories of unwanted presents as well as the quality of (and satisfaction with) courier services during the holiday season.

December 8: Gifts for over 5000 PLN

Over PLN 5000 in presents! : This year, the average household is going to spend PLN 837 on gifts. It’s also among the male population that we’ve found voices declaring a planned spend on Christmas presents in excess of PLN 5000. 17th December: A “Company” Christmas
